Many have suffered repeated trauma, complicated grief, chronic illness, disease and pain, issues surrounding ability/disability, heavy neglect, domestic violence, childhood abuse, compassion fatigue, major depression, family issues, relationship struggles, spiritual concerns, generalized anxiety, artistic dormancy, uncertainty with life transitions, struggles with personal growth, loneliness, and heartache
…but your pain is neither too small nor too large to share with me, and I consider it a privilege to work with individuals of nearly all presentations!
My clients range in age from 18 years old to nearly 100, including diverse faith perspectives and heritage. Some are-or-have-been healthcare workers, DV staff, naval captains, healthcare professionals, crisis workers, clergy, tribal government staff, loggers, teachers, real estate professionals, nurses, truck drivers, physical therapists, unemployed, home health care aids, stay-at-home dads, firefighters, students, social workers, engineers, food service workers, 911 staff, single mothers, case workers, pilots, writers, special education teachers, refinery workers, musicians, bankers, chefs, coders, managers, sailors, nursing assistants, gang members, day-traders, unhoused, scientists, painters, machinists, professional athletes, financial planners. university department heads, hackers, non-profit staff, retired, administrators, therapists, fisherfolk, mediators, translators, small business owners, accountants, elected government officials, and certainly those working more-than-full-time in care of family or their own disease, dying, or survival process.

Yes, Klaartaka Counseling is a local clinician practice in Bellingham offering trauma-focused therapy and expert in grief/loss treatment options. Hopefully it helps to know that we view grief as a process of deciding what to keep and what to let go of rather than as a singular emotion or formulated expectation.

I generally offer options six days out of the week, including some weekend times. Scheduling varies, so let’s talk about your calendar needs when we meet. Most weekday session openings fall between 11:30am and 5. I have sessions all day on Saturdays starting (usually) about 7:30am. Sunday timings are generally afternoon. I try to offer one or two time slots after 5pm during a weekday, but these usually book up quickly.

It’s relaxed, comfortable, and wheelchair accessible. It’s clean, has four large windows, and is sometimes a little messy. The air is fresh and I have multiple types of chairs you can sit in, as well as a white shag rug if you like the floor!

I work from an integrated approach that draws from a wide range of evidence-based therapies, and which is also informed regarding the evidence that evidence-based therapies are not always/generally best practice. From trauma-informed care to person-centered therapy, I incorporate strategies from multiple theoretical counseling approaches, depending on your goals, experience, and needs. Some of these, just to name a few, are strengths-based therapy, motivational interviewing, social constructionist negotiation, parts work, narrative therapy, attachment-based therapy, depth work, existential therapy, and emotionally focused therapy. I strive for a safe and culturally affirming practice, and my professional life has included work over decades with individuals from more than 51 countries.
